Pregnancy is the first step towards motherhood. With the right diet and medical supervision the different stages of pregnancy can be made safe and enjoyable.
The first stage
You must consult your doctor immediately when you miss your periods to confirm pregnancy. A pregnancy at 5 weeks can be detected through a transvaginal ultrasound. During the first trimester symptoms experienced include nausea, fainting, vomiting, appetite loss and passing urine very often. Vaginal discharge, breast expansion, darkening of nipples and secretions are the other signs experienced during the first three months.
In the first month the baby is like an embryo. In the second month webbed fingers will develop and the baby will also grow in size. In the third month the baby will have its finger prints and will be larger too.
Resorting to a balanced diet with adequate carbohydrates and proteins is necessary during this stage. Folic acid supplement intake is a must. You may be asked to consult the doctor once a month.
The second stage
During the second trimester nausea disappears. Appetite is restored. You belly will start bulging and slight weight gain will be noticed. Sweating, sleeplessness, hemorrhoids, nose bleeding, pigmentation on the face and vaginal discharge are generally experienced in this stage. The heart beats get augmented due to increase in blood flow in the body. You will also see a dark line running vertically down the stomach. Medical consultations are generally required once a month.
Your baby’s cartilage will convert to bones in the 4th month. Facial features develop in the 5th month and baby fat makes your baby’s skin soft in the 6th month.
The third stage
Your stomach will protrude more and more each day in the last trimester causing you much discomfort. Hot skin, decrease in blood pressure and inflammation in the limbs is common during this last phase of pregnancy. You will have to visit the doctor each week for check ups. Women may experience complications and false labor during this phase.
In the seventh month the baby begins to grow in size and doubles in weight. In the eighth month the baby will have fully developed lungs and a rounder body. In the ninth month the baby develops to the form in which it will be born.
